Albert Herrnstein holds the records for most rushing touchdowns in a season (26) and in a single game (7), having set those records for the 1902 team.

Receiving leaders. Michigan receiving records are dominated by Braylon Edwards who played for Michigan from 2001 to 2004. He holds the records for most receiving yards in a career (3,541) and season (1,330 in 2004), the records for most receptions in a career (252) and season (97 in 2004), and the record for most career touchdown reception (39). Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard holds the single season record with 19 touchdown passes during the 1991 season. Michigan's single game receiving records are held by Roy Roundtree (246 receiving yards against Illinois in 2010), Marquise Walker (15 receptions against Ohio State in 2001), and Derrick Alexander (four touchdown catches against Minnesota in 1992).

Historical caveats. Although Michigan began competing in intercollegiate football in 1879,[1] the school's official statistical database only tracks offensive statistics since 1949.[2] The tracking of defensive statistics dates back to an even shorter period of time and is not covered within the scope of this article.

Because the official database commences in 1949, many statistical achievements are overlooked in these lists. In past years, there have been numerous alleged sightings of cougars in areas of East Texas, most being unsubstantiated. Now what that means to me is that no official game warden or other Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) official saw it, so it is marked off many times as unfounded.

Cougars, also known as mountain lions, pumas, or panthers are efficient predators ranging throughout the Western states, and indications are their population is increasing.

The range of a cougar depends on the availability of food and their range varies from 10 to 370 square miles.

Deer and in some instances, feral hogs, and cattle make up the major diet of cougars. The increase of feral hogs across the southern states increases the possibility of cougars migrating to areas previously unpopulated by these large cats.

Male cougars can weigh up to 165 pounds and up to eight feet in length while the females weigh around 100 pounds.

They are solitary animals and live in remote country and are seldom seen by humans.

A few years back, a TPWD game warden here in Liberty County told me he had received reports of cougars and in one instance, he said he found the carcass of a deer up in the forks of a tree. He surmised that the carcass was carried up in the tree by a cougar.

Possibly the sightings of black panthers actually were dark colored cougars.

I saw my first cougar back in the early 1980s. Robert McWhorter, engineer at radio station KJCH here in Cleveland and I were on the way to Coldspring to set up some equipment for a broadcast of the San Jacinto County Fair. About five miles south of Double Lake, we both saw this brown cougar cross the highway in front of us at a distance of about a quarter mile.

In succeeding years in the same area, I saw a cougar on two other occasions along the same highway.

The last reported killing of a black bear in Texas was on May 20, 1973 at a locality eight miles north of Silsbee.

Packers cut multiple veterans to trim roster to 53

Green Bay Running back Alex Green and linebacker Dezman Moses, significant contributors for the Green Bay Packers one year ago, were released Saturday as general manager Ted Thompson shuffled the deck to reach the 53 player limit. Williams and linebacker Terrell Manning, also were among the 22 players departing on waivers.

Quarterback Vince Young and tight end Matthew Mulligan, easily the most seasoned veterans signed by Thompson in the last eight months, were let go as well when not long ago it seemed they were destined to make it.

During their 1 3 exhibition season, the Packers appeared to have better backup players on defense than offense. That was reflected in decisions resulting in just 23 players on offense compared to 27 on defense.

Since the National Football League increased the roster size to 53 in 1993, the Packers have never gone into opening day with only 23 on offense. Coach Mike McCarthy did have 24 in 2007, '11 and '12, but in the last six seasons under Mike Holmgren the Packers averaged 27 on offense.

"The quarterback's health and not having to count on as many receivers is what caused the change," an executive in personnel for an NFL team said Saturday night.

The Minnesota Vikings joined the National Football League (NFL) in 1961. The Vikings' first selection as an NFL team was Tommy Mason, a running back from Tulane University. The team's most recent firstround selections were Matt Kalil, an offensive tackle from the University of Southern California, and safety Harrison Smith out of Notre Dame.[1]
